Whole Foods will become a 35,000-square-foot store with a beer garden on the second level called Tunnel Road Tap Haus, according to a new press release announcing the Aug. 26 launch of Whole Foods.

Whole Foods co-CEOs John Mackay and Walter Robb apologized for overcharging customers after a Daily News report revealed the natural foods giant “consistently overcharges customers on groceries.”

Greenlife Grocers owned by East Asheville Whole Foods and Whole Foods on Merrimon Avenue carry products from 40-50 Western North Carolina suppliers, local marketing specialist Jennifer Wozniak said.
About 25 percent of the produce sold at Whole Foods comes from local farms, he said.
The East Asheville location will employ about 170 people, said Darrah Horgan, marketing coordinator for Whole Foods. He said the position at Asheville’s newest Whole Foods location is in high demand both locally and within the company.
“Almost every team leader in that store is from a different part of the company,” Horgan said. “We have people moving from the west to the north – Asheville is exactly the location they want.
