Whole Foods (NASDAQ: WFM) will open its 30,000-square-foot store in Del Mar on Feb. 27 at 9 a.m. and an official grand opening celebration next month.
The store features all the departments that Whole Foods shoppers have come to love in Encinitas and La Jolla, including a sandwich bar, in-store bakery, organic salad bar, soup bar, juice bar, coffee bar, bulk lunch box, produce, a full body care including vitamins and personal care, takeout and a gourmet pizza and sushi shop.
Whole Foods Market Del Mar stocks products from more than 100 local Southern California vendors and farmers.
Staying true to the local food movement, Whole Foods supplies Archi’s Acres, Be Wise Ranch, Carlsbad Aquafarm, Fallbrook Winery, Homegrown Meats, Sage Mountain Farms, San Diego Seafood Harvesters, Stehly Farms Organics, Suzie and Tarantino Gourmet Sausage Co. the products.

Whole Foods management is most excited about Trifecta Tavern, a fast-casual restaurant and bar in Whole Foods Market Del Mar with a rotating selection of craft beers on tap, wine and a food menu.

Earlier this week I had the pleasure of checking out Del Mar’s newest Whole Foods Market at the newly renovated Flower Hill Mall. I was surprised when I first walked in! This 30,000 square foot store is not only bigger than where I’m used to shopping, it has many features that exude Del Mar brilliance! The event was more than I imagined: food, music, local beer and incredibly fresh (and locally grown) wine made me want to shop without the kids. Too bad I had to wait until Wednesday when they officially opened their doors.
I’m more than happy that Whole Foods is now closer to us, but with just a quick trip down the 56 freeway, I’m already planning weekly shopping trips (on a budget). I can go with the kids or not take advantage of the Trifecta Tavern, which has 30 craft beers on tap and an extensive menu. Better yet, I might have to get a babysitter for a night at the market. Who would have thought that would ever fit in a sentence?
The store’s commitment to local produce was evident in the offerings of more than 100 local vendors and farmers from nearby Orange, San Diego and Los Angeles counties, including: Homegrown Meats, Archi’s Acres, Be Wise, Stehly, Suzie’s Organic Farm, Carlsbad Aquafarm. , South Coast Winery and Fallbrook Winery.
The design and construction of the store also considered the environment, the interior design of the store was influenced by the important geographical and natural landscape features of the surrounding area: cliffs, groves of Torrey Pines, chaparral-laden hills and lagoons. Additionally, the store environment’s graphics and other creative design elements have been inspired by important local locations and cultural amenities such as horse culture and golf courses. I was really impressed with the design elements, Whole Foods Market hit the ball out of the park again!

Archi’s Acres is located in Valley Center, just a hop, skip and a jump north of me. I love Whole Foods Market donated $100,000 to Archi’s Acres to help build a new half-acre greenhouse. I feel better knowing that the food I buy for my family travels less before it reaches our table.
